About me
What I do
I work with businesses small and large, as well as other freelancers to take their brands to the next level or get them off the ground. I enjoy being ‘their guy’, a go to for anything they need which means that I take care of all the technical hassle associated with running a business and being online. Frankly, with 15+ years in the industry there isn't anything I can't help with.
I am naturally curious and over the years have evolved from solely a UX designer to being a freelance software, website, logo, brand and graphic designer. When I started out, I did a lot of work based that was specific to web app and website design: gathering requirements; wireframing, information architecture and project delivery working with Scrum teams. As time went on and I worked with more clients (that include The Home Office, National Institute for Health Research, NHS Scotland, Informa, Thrive Tribe) and on more projects I found areas that I enjoyed and were gaps on my knowledge base so I worked to add UI design, content design, graphic design, logo design and brand design to my skill set. This was a very conscious decision and it means that I bring a unique and complete perspective to projects that I work on with clients now. It means that as we work together to shape your product, I am less dependant on other creatives and that I have a great perspective on taking over from someone else and how best to future proof whatever we're working on - whether it be a logo, a website or software.
My background and education
I graduated in Product Design at Brunel University, where I did a 12 month placement in the User Experience team at Betfair. Once I graduated I went straight into consulting, working as a Design Consultant at PA Consulting for four years before then becoming a contractor. This was in 2016 and when I founded J4G Design.
Side note
I am also plant based athlete: I am a fencer. This is has always been something that I have done and have had the pleasure to compete at World Cups for Great Britain and the Commonwealth Fencing Championships for Scotland (where I won a bronze medal).
Being a small business and since working with Chris and his developing of our website & e-commerce we had a definite boost in sales. He helped with designing instore promotional material too that have had great response of footfall. He is reliable, prompt and professional. We would highly recommend Chris and his company.
Chris was professional and super helpful as was not entirely sure what I wanted. He was a good timekeeper and always showed up when organized to meet. He took his time to listen to my ideas and what I needed and designed my site keeping it simple so I could change myself when I needed to. Very pleased with the result, I won't hesitate to go back to J4G Design for help.
J4G Design have been an excellent ‘one stop shop’ for our small business – Chris has helped us with all our marketing needs, most recently updating our website and providing valuable insights into website accessibility and designing a new DL leaflet. Chris has been great at prioritising work to fit our budget and we never feel pressurised into agreeing work until we are ready for it. We highly recommend J4G Design if you want friendly, efficient and effective help with your marketing needs.
Chris gave my website an overhaul, sorted out my SEO and numerous broken links and redirects etc. An excellent personalised service at a good price. He was happy to spend the time talking me through exactly what he was doing and breaking it down into simple language for me. Much appreciated and highly recommended 👌🏻
I asked Chris if he could support me (an IT novice!) with a transfer of the details of my personal website onto a new platform. From the off, Chris was professional, helpful, timely and supportive. He took time to explain the process and then transferred and redesigned the site whilst keeping me updated. He also made some suggestions on how I could make some adjustments to the site to make it easier to navigate. Really pleased with the result, I won't hesitate to use J4G design again. Thanks Chris
While technology is meant to help our every day lives, I find that the reality of that is that there are still lots of barriers and friction involved that cause frustration and for people to just give up. ESPECIALLY when there isn’t the luxury to just build a bespoke solution. Lots of websites and systems out there come templated and pre-built which is a great starting point but can easily make for a clunky experience. This is where I come in – whatever the issue is, let’s have a chat and leave it to me.
